Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Jill the author and creator behind this blog. I wanted to create a space to document all that we do as we try to build the homestead of our dreams. I’m so happy you decided to read along. I’m a wife, mother of 3, local library manager, and supporter of my local community.
We live on 160 acres, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta. We moved out here in 2013 and have been slowly building our straw bale house ever since. Sorry, you won’t get to see much of how that is done. We will have moved in and mostly finished the house by the time you are reading this. But that isn’t to say you won’t get a glimpse of other things that need to be done around the house. Because, trust me, there are lots!
A few fun things about me…
My husband and I both grew up local to where we live now (we actually purchased the homestead from his parents).
I love to read. In fact, I often have multiple books on the go. Call it a hazard of my day job. My favourite topic to read about is Quantum Physics. Don’t worry, I don’t know nearly enough about it to ever share it here.
I love to try new things. ALL the new things. New recipes, new crafts, new plants to grow…you name it and I am probably game. Except for extreme sports. That is a pass. HARD pass. You will probably see me jump right into something new. And then you will probably see me have to try again, because I didn’t follow the instructions.
This blog is about our very ordinary life. Now, that’s not to say nothing exciting ever happens. In fact, I hope a lot more exciting things happen. Sure, the house is done but that doesn’t mean we are. There are gardens to build. Fences and paddocks to be planned. Food that we hope to grow and animals that we would like to raise. We want to build a place that our family will want to gather at for generations. Here you will get to see how we are choose to add all of this to our life. Chances are you will also get to see how not to do it, because we are far from experts.
Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to you coming back. Let’s Connect. You can contact me here.
